Cody ARPH #10639 (Connecticut)

codycody1cody2

Cody is an adorable little fellow whose stump wags a mile a minute when you greet him. He is very comfortable and friendly with people and may offer you a paw, or put his front paws right onto your lap and lean his head against you, to say hello.

Cody is a year and a half old, neutered, blue merle male. He is small for a male, just under 19 inches and weighing about 35 pounds (although he could stand to gain a few pounds). Cody is from a merle to merle breeding, a combination which can result in hearing and vision problems. Cody seems to hear fine. Cody has small pupils and while his sight is quite functional, he does have some visual limitations. His peripheral vision is limited, he has difficulty pinpointing small objects up close to him and tracking moving objects (such as a rolled ball or a thrown toy)

Cody is notably low key and mellow for an aussie. He is relaxed and quiet around the house. Even when in the large fenced yard, he is more likely to amble about sniffing, than dash around after his foster brothers and sisters as they play. He gets along quite well with all the other dogs in the house and would be happy to have a doggie companion to live with, but would be equally content as an only dog. There are no cats at Cody’s foster home, but reportedly he was fine with the cats he met briefly at the shelter. Cody was turned into the shelter for bothering the chickens at his former home, so would presumably need to be watched around fowl.

Cody is housebroken and crate trained. He walks nicely on leash without pulling, although he does occasionally cross behind his walker. Cody has been an outside dog, and his foster home is his first experience with indoor living. He is learning (and occasionally testing!) the rules regarding furniture. For instance, one morning his foster mother was eating her breakfast and sleepily looking at the morning paper, when she glanced up to notice Cody sitting quietly in the chair next to her. Cody is responsive to gentle redirection, and is eager to learn and to please, so it should not be difficult for him to learn the expectations of his forever home. He has been introduced to basic commands such as sit, down, come and off and is progressing nicely in his training. He is food motivated and works eagerly for treats. Preference will be given to those homes that have traditionally fenced yards.

Cody is a sweet, loving dog who would make a terrific companion. If you would like the opportunity to make this wonderful fellow a part of your life please contact
Pat and ask your rep to send along your application and home visit. Cody is in Durham, CT.

Bugsy # 10128 (Maine)

Bugsy2

Everyone please met Bugsy Malone. Bugsy is an adorable black tri with one ear up and one ear down - a cute, engaging boy described by his foster mom as "a total sweetheart." He is a little reserved at first but after a few minutes will start bringing toys to his new human friends and bumping hands with his head to beg for pats. Bugsy enjoys playing with other dogs and is good with both males and females, big or small, Aussies or toy breeds. He would enjoy a home with canine companions or a situation where there are other dogs to play with. He knows his basic obedience (sit, down, stay, and some cute tricks) but could use a refresher course in leash manners since he pulls when excited. Bugsy does bark at strangers, but he will quiet down quickly on request. He has lived with a cat, but due to his liveliness will chase if given an opportunity so we'd say dog-saavy cats only. Bugsy has a history of good behavior with visiting children, but might be too much for younger ones. All around Bugsy is just a wonderful Aussie and would make someone a loving and entertaining companion. The problem, though, is that despite the fact that he looks and acts about three, Bugsy is eight years old. With his excellent health and energy level, Bugsy has a lot of years of love left to give to the right person. If you think you might be that person, please contact Catherine.

I am a lovely red tri that came into rescue through no fault of my own. My very favorite person in the whole world got very sick and could no longer care for me and the rest of our fur family. The transition to a foster home without everyone I love has been very difficult.

I am an alpha female (but not a real strong alpha) with impeccable house manners. I am very quiet in the house but I love to run and play outdoors. I have a very strong herding instinct so a home with little ones is not a good idea. I am comfortable around livestock but have had no formal training. I get very nervous when there are thunder storms and I must find a place to hide, like under the bed or in the crate. I am crate trained but never need it unless I decide to go in myself. I am very reserved around strangers, but warm up to women quickly. I do eventually warm up to men, it just takes a bit longer. I am the typical velcro aussie. I am protective of my home but when you tell me it's OK I will stand quietly beside you. I love to go for rides and long walks. Cats are really cool and for the most part I ignore them.

My dream home would be one with another fur baby, preferably male, that is younger than me so I will have a playmate. Did I mention I am a very young 6 and I can run like the wind? I am up to date on my vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped.
